About us
Center for Kinanthropology Research was established in 2005 as research workplace at the Faculty of Physical Culture, Palacky University in Olomouc. It focuses on research in the field of physical activity and inactivity in relation to lifestyle and health of Czech inhabitants. It is composed as an interdisciplinary workplace. At the same time it has coordination and consultation function in the sphere of monitoring PA for central European countries. Research team of CfKR consist of 13 researchers. Another 18 researchers from the Faculty of Physical Culture, 12 external colleagues from different Czech regions and 13 foreign colleagues (Belgium, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, Poland , Slovak Republic, and U.S.A.) are involved in research projects.
At present, main scientific area of CfKR is to work on research grant from Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport: MSM 6198959221 “Physical activity and inactivity of the inhabitants of the Czech Republic in the context of behavioral changes” (2005-2011). CfKR also guarantees on behalf of the Czech Republic international research project from National Institution of Health (U.S.A.) “International Study of Built Environment, Physical Activity, and Obesity” that is organised within world-wide research initiative “International Physical Activity and the Environment Network” (coordinated by San Diego State University). CfKR also participates in international European projects financed by DG Sanco “Improving Infrastructures for Leisure-Time Physical Activity in the Local Area – Good Practice in Europe” (project IMPALA-CZ) and “Building Policy Capacities for Health Promotion through Physical Activity among Sedentary Older People” (project PASEO-CZ) coordinated by Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany.
The workplace has got devices for monitoring physical activity of world importance, instrumental technique used in the field of biomechanics, motorics, exercise physiology, somatometry and other kinanthropology disciplines. It is equipped with developed authorised software for inserting data from various devices and questionnaires, statistical software Statistica 9 and PASW IBM 18.0, online access to the most important worldwide databases, CfKR team publish uniformly according to APA manual and guarantee two scientific journals (Acta Universitatis Palackianae Olomucensis Gymnica - published in English, peer review journal, and Tělesná kultura - published in Czech with English abstracts, peer review journal) with indexation in worldwide databases.
